About Us
Over the past few years I have attempted to get fit. By all accounts I’ve failed miserably, thus the use of the word ‘attempt.’ Then fate stepped in. The phone rang and it was father calling to give me the bad news that one of my cousins had passed away from a major heart attack! The doctors said that it was the lifestyle that he led as well as the heredity that we share. He was only 47 years old.
About 2 years before, I was given the news that my dad has 3 of his arteries blocked and that he is going to need another by-pass surgery. This would be his second surgery, although he is choosing not to do it. The first time was over 20 years ago and he had to replace 5 of his 6 main arteries. I am very grateful every day that I am blessed with him and am looking forward to celebrating 50 years of marriage between he and my mom. Then it dawned on me. Four of my Dad’s brothers were also victims of major heart attacks and artery “cloggage.” They were not as fortunate as my dad and passed away. I wondered, “would I have to suffer the same fate? Was my genetic makeup set? Was my destiny preordained?” I was startled and started to search for answers. When all was said and done, I found enough supporting documentation that convinced me that it was more than genetics that is the major contributor to the health issues that plagued my family. I started to look in a different direction. I started to find commonalities. My dad and his brothers shared certain things in common. They all ate similar (unhealthy) diets, drank alcohol, smoked cigarettes (although my dad has never), had high stress and did not exercise…. The picture became clear. I knew what I had to do. My mission was set. Get Fit or Die!
